Adele Burkhardt

About the artist:

Adele Burkhardt  (American 1917 – 1997)   was a well-known mid-century modern painter in Columbus, Ohio.

She attended the Columbus Art School (now Columbus College of Art and Design) and Ohio University. Burkhardt studied with Harriet Kirkpatrick and Emerson Burkhart (no relation) in Columbus, and Frank Stanley Herring at a famous art retreat in South Carolina.

Her work included abstracted still life subjects, landscapes and portraits but she is best known for her abstracted colorful cityscapes.  Her work was exhibited widely particularly in the 1960s including in juried exhibitions, watercolor shows, Columbus Art League exhibits, and at the Ohio State Fair.  Burkhardt’s work is quite good and is an excellent addition to any Ohio collection.
